Bmibaby plans major expansion at East Midlands
9 Sep 2009

Bmibaby has announced what it describes as a 'massive expansion plan' at East Midlands airport.

The airline's development will consist of three key initiatives, starting with three additional aircraft being based at the hub.

Eight new routes will be launched to the European destinations of Alghero, Barcelona, Bastia, Cork, Dubrovnik, Malta, Newquay and Venice, while a year-round service will be introduced to Geneva and Prague.

Travellers will also be able to make use of increased frequencies on key winter and summer flights to Malaga, Palma, Faro and other destinations.

Crawford Rix, managing director of bmibaby, said: 'Our rapid expansion programme at East Midlands airport is fantastic news for the Midlands.

'It not only further demonstrates our commitment to the airport, but also to the people of the region, as we continue to offer low fares to a range of exciting new European destinations.'

The airline expects to operate an additional 2,872 flights and carry 350,000 more passengers from East Midlands airport in 2010.
