29 Sep 2009

A new accommodation option is on offer in the Dominican Republic following the opening of the country's first Holiday Inn.

According to InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), the Holiday Inn Santo Domingo will 'set the standard' for the chain's other properties in the Caribbean.

The seven-storey, 141-room hotel is located on Avenida Abraham Lincoln, one of the main avenues in Santo Domingo, in close proximity to shopping centres, nightclubs and restaurants.

Amenities on offer to guests include a 24-hour fitness centre, a spa, an outdoor rooftop swimming pool and free wireless internet access in all rooms.

Alvaro Diago, IHG's chief operating officer in the Caribbean and Latin America, said: 'We are excited to introduce the Holiday Inn brand to one of the most thriving cities in the Caribbean.

'Additionally, we are thrilled to bring the new standards and hallmarks of the Holiday Inn brand to the Holiday Inn Santo Domingo as we know guests to the hotel will be extremely satisfied with the relaunch changes they experience.'

IHG is investing $1bn (£630m) in its Holiday Inn revamp to create a more contemporary image for the brand.
