The fact that the destination serves as a commercial and financial hub as well as a historical and cultural hotspot means it has developed into a 'vibrant and multicultural metropolis', according to the tourism agency.
People on cultural breaks can head to the city's Museumsufer district - which comprises a total of 26 museums on the banks of the Main river - or enjoy a night out at the Oper Frankfurt or the English Theatre Frankfurt.
The city's status as a commercial centre is represented by buildings such as the European Central Bank and the Commerzbank tower, which form part of Frankfurt's instantly recognisable skyline.
Travellers planning to visit the destination during the festive season can explore its Christmas market, which attracts some 3m people every year.
