Dubai 'has defied global aviation trend'
2 Oct 2009
Dubai airport has defied the global trend of falling passenger numbers this year, according to official figures.
A spokesman for the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) said that the hub is the only one of the world's top ten airports in terms of international passenger traffic to report growth this year.
This highlights the fact that 'green shoots of recovery' are beginning to be seen in the Dubai tourism industry, according to the DTCM representative.
'Aviation here has defied the global trend and this is testament to the attractiveness of Dubai not just as a transit hub but also as an international destination for both business and tourism,' he added.
Dubai airport is expected to set a new record of 40.5m passengers this year.
Commenting on the appeal of the destination, the spokesman said that it offers attractions and experiences for everyone, from 'sun worshippers and shoppers to action and adventure lovers'.
