See a festive spectacle in Vancouver
6 Oct 2009

Travellers planning a trip to Vancouver this Christmas will be able to see a unique festive spectacle in the city.

The Carol Ships Parade of Lights, which is celebrating its 49th anniversary this year, will run from 4 to 23 December.

Nearly 50 years ago, this annual tradition was founded when a single boat decorated with Christmas lights sailed in Coal Harbour off the Bayshore Inn.

Today, more than 50 vessels adorned with some 100,000 stunning illuminations take part in the event, carrying over 30,000 people on boat trips in the harbour.

Visitors can gather at a number of vantage points to watch the ships sail past, including Barnet Marine Park and Burrard Pier at the foot of Lonsdale Avenue.

These locations will also host some of the onshore activities set to take place during the Carol Ships Parade of Lights, including bonfires, craft workshops and gospel choir concerts.

People planning a Christmas holiday in Canada can catch flights to Vancouver with Air Canada, United Airlines, Lufthansa and other carriers.
