Travellers based in north-west England can now catch new flights to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura from Liverpool John Lennon airport with easyJet.

The airline has introduced a new Airbus A320 aircraft at its Liverpool base to operate the routes to the Canary Islands.

With the addition of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote to its network, easyJet now serves 23 European destinations from the airport, with new flights to Bordeaux, Dubrovnik and Naples also being launched this year.

Some 2.4m people from the region have flown with easyJet in the past 12 months, reportedly making it the largest carrier in the north-west.

Trevor Spinks, the airline's UK commercial manager, said: 'The introduction of this new, bigger aircraft and new routes to the Canary Islands reflect our continued commitment to the 22.5m customers who have flown with us over the past 12 years.

'We've listened to customer feedback calling for more routes to the sun and are confident our two new routes to the Canaries will be a huge success.'

The new flights to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote were launched on 2 and 3 November respectively, with both services operating three times a week.
