Dubai airport is expected to pass the 40m passenger mark this year, with the performance of
Emirates cited as one of the major factors in the hub's success.
Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, said that the beginning of the tourist season and events such as the Dubai Airshow have also contributed to the high level of traffic at the gateway.
In October, passenger traffic at Dubai airport increased by 11.7%.
This marks the fifth consecutive month of double-digit growth.
Overall, nearly 3.5m people passed through the hub during the month, compared to 3.13m in October 2008.
Mr Griffiths said: 'Our performance as one of the world's fastest growing airports is proof that it pays to invest in infrastructure and build capacity to support and stimulate economic activity.
'It is also evidence of the effectiveness of Dubai's integrated approach to air transport, trade and tourism.'
Dubai International and Dubai World Central Al Maktoum airports are expected to handle more than 46m passengers in 2010.
