New York 'could see an influx of Christmas visitors'
19 Nov 2009
New York is set to prove a popular destination over the Christmas period, according to a travel expert.
Sharron Livingston, editor of the Travel Magazine, acknowledged that the weak state of the pound on currency markets is having an influence on people's destination choices.
However, she stressed that the appeal of New York often 'transcends any other factors'.
Ms Livingston added: 'Hoteliers in New York are not taking any chances and are frantically reducing room rates.
'Couple this with overall expectations of better times and the USA, especially New York, may well see an influx of visitors in the run up to Christmas and beyond.'
There will be several events taking place in New York over the festive period, such as the 3 Bears Holiday Bash, a new puppet show being performed at the Swedish Cottage in Central Park.
Another highlight of the season is the famous New Year's Eve party in Times Square.
