The 2009 New South Wales (NSW) Tourism Awards ceremony was held this week, with Featherdale Wildlife Park in Sydney among the winners.
State tourism minister Jodi McKay congratulated the park on its success in the major tourist attraction category.
She described it as 'an outstanding sanctuary and showcase of Australian wildlife'.
'The park boasts one of the world's premier collections of unique native Australian animals and bird life in a natural bush setting, all
just 45 minutes from the centre of Sydney,' Ms McKay added.
Other winners at the NSW Tourism Awards included the Sydney Festival 2009, which was named the best major event of the year.
Blue Mountains National Park picked up the honour recognising ecotourism, while the backpacker accommodation accolade went to Sydney Central YHA.
Nearly 150 finalists were shortlisted in 30 different categories for this year's awards.
'These awards reinforce the quality, vitality and diversity of the NSW tourism industry and recognise those businesses that have been the benchmark for best practice across the state,' Ms McKay said.
