Continental Airlines will offer a new transatlantic travel option next year with the launch of flights to Munich from Newark Liberty airport, its hub in New York.
The daily, non-stop service will be introduced on 27 March with a schedule that is designed to complement the existing connection between New York and Munich provided by
Lufthansa, the American airline's Star Alliance partner.
Continental revealed that the schedule has also been arranged to enable convenient connections at Munich, where travellers can access links to several destinations in Europe and the Middle East.
A Boeing 767-200ER aircraft will be used to operate the new service, offering 25 seats in business class and space for 149 passengers in economy.
Jim Compton,
Continental's executive vice president of marketing, said: 'We are excited about launching services between New York and Munich, the largest German city not currently served by
Continental and a hub for our new partner
Lufthansa.
'As well as extending
Continental service to a new market in Germany, this hub-to-hub link will provide additional travel options and opportunities for our customers on both sides of the Atlantic.'
