New marine creature welcomed at Dubai Aquarium
20 Nov 2009

Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo has announced that it is now home to a giant Pacific octopus, which is reportedly one of the most intelligent animals in the sea.

The creature adds to the 135 species that are already on display at the attraction, which is located within the Dubai Mall.

Found in the northern Pacific Ocean, the latest addition to the aquarium's population is the largest octopus species in the world.

Damian Prendergast, general manager of the attraction, said that new and interesting marine animals are routinely being brought in to 'add to the wealth of knowledge visitors can gain'.

He added: 'The giant Pacific octopus is indeed a very unique species with several interesting features that will amaze visitors.

'They have three hearts and can taste food with their tentacles, meaning they don't have to bring food to their mouth to know if it is a good meal.'

Other species that visitors can see at Dubai Aquarium include sand tiger sharks, Humboldt penguins, piranhas and spider crabs.
