Record snowfall in Whistler, Canada
23 Nov 2009

Whistler ski resort in Canada has already surpassed its record for snowfall in November, seven days before the end of the month.

Tourism British Columbia announced that 430cm of snow has landed on the mountains, exceeding the previous high of 416cm experienced in 2006.

The agency encouraged skiers and snowboarders to visit Whistler and the nearby city of Vancouver over the coming months, highlighting the range of accommodation offers available in the region.

Access to the resort is also easier than ever, with a major upgrade to the Sea-to-Sky Highway that links Vancouver to Whistler now days away from completion.

Arlene Schieven, vice-president of marketing for Tourism Whistler, said: 'Whistler is currently offering some of the best value for accommodation and lift ticket packages in its history and the atmosphere here is more inviting and exciting than ever.

'With all the early snow, we are off to a great start this winter season.'

British Columbia will welcome sports fans and competitors from around the world in February 2010 when the Winter Olympics is held in Vancouver.
