Brits 'have always been lured by eastern promise'
26 Nov 2009

The 'eastern promise' of exotic destinations such as Egypt, Morocco and Turkey has always been a strong factor in British holidaymakers' decisions to go there, according to a travel expert.

Sharron Livingston, editor of the Travel Magazine, said that countries such as these offer a combination of good value for money and unique eastern appeal.

She was speaking after American Express Global Foreign Exchange Service predicted that Turkey and Egypt will continue to prove popular in 2010.

'The pull of eastern promise has always been appealing to British travellers,' Ms Livingston said.

'These destinations often offer great value for money and as long as they do, Brits will keep on visiting.'

One of the factors identified in the American Express research was a desire among British travellers to get more value for their money outside the eurozone.

Ms Livingston predicted that, despite the currency situation, France and Spain will remain popular owing to their proximity to the UK.
