Millennium Park in Chicago will prove a popular tourist attraction over the coming months following the recent opening of the area's ice skating rink.

The Chicago and Illinois tourist board describes ice skating as "a winter time tradition" in the city.

Every year, more than 100,000 skaters use the McCormick Tribune ice rink in Millennium Park.

The attraction was opened in November and will continue to welcome visitors until 14 March.

People planning to visit Chicago over the Christmas period will also be able to take advantage of the various in-store promotions, discounts and special offers that will be available along the Magnificent Mile shopping area until 24 December.

The city was recently promoted at the World Travel Market in London, where a stand was set up to showcase all that Chicago and the state of Illinois have to offer.

Flights to Chicago are provided by several carriers, including British Airways, Continental Airlines and United Airlines.
