Picasso show to be launched at New York Met
17 Dec 2009

One of the most influential artists of the 20th century will be the subject of a landmark exhibition opening in New York next year.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art will host a showcase of work by Pablo Picasso from 27 April to 1 August.

Around 150 works will feature in the show, which is the first display to focus exclusively on pieces by Picasso from the museum's collection.

The Met states that its archive 'reflects the full breadth of the artist's multi-sided genius' and is notable for its range of early figure paintings and drawings.

Visitors will be able to see a variety of pieces in the exhibition, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints and a number of ceramics that have never before been seen in their entirety.

Also opening at the museum next year is a showcase of drawings by the 16th century artist Agnolo Bronzino, which will run from 20 January to 18 April.
