Glasgow airport to see £25m investment
30 Dec 2009
Travellers using Glasgow airport over the next two years will see the benefits of a £25 million investment plan.
Airport operator BAA announced that bosses are predicting a return to growth at Glasgow in 2010, which will be supported by some £12 million in additional spending.
A further £13 million will be invested in 2011, bringing improvements to the airport road system, the terminal pier, the food court, the main terminal building and other areas.
Glasgow airport's managing director, Amanda McMillan, said: 'This investment package is good news for passengers and good news for the economy of Glasgow and the west of Scotland, particularly at a time of recession.
'These improvements will deliver a better passenger experience, provide enhanced terminal facilities and improve the efficiency of our taxiway and runway infrastructure, which are essential for the smooth operation of the airport.'
Last year, Glasgow introduced a £31m terminal extension known as 'skyhub', which represented the biggest single investment in the airport for more than a decade.
Up to £100m could be spent on the airport between now and 2014, when Glasgow will host the Commonwealth Games.
