Holidaymakers visiting Rome later this year might have the chance to see one of the highlights of the city's sporting calendar.
The 2010 Rome Marathon is scheduled for 21 March.
Taking place for the 16th time, the event is set to break the previous record of 15,000 participants set in 2007, with 10,000 runners already registered to take part.
People who would rather watch the sporting spectacle can gather along a route that starts and ends near the Colosseum in the heart of the city.
During the marathon, runners pass by the Roman Forum, Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza di Spagna and other famous locations in the Italian capital.
Visitors who would like to get involved in the occasion but don't fancy running over 40km can take part in 'La Stracittadina', a fun run that is held in conjunction with the marathon.
All people are welcome to take part in the 4km challenge.
Opodo cheap flights, hotels and car hire - let the journey begin!
