Dubai is now home to a brand new tourist attraction following the opening of the world's tallest building in the emirate.
Burj Dubai officially opens to the public today (5 January) following an ambitious development that spanned six years.
Standing at a height of over 800 metres, the building is the centrepiece of the 500-acre Downtown Burj Dubai community.
Described by developer Emaar Properties as 'the most prestigious square kilometre on Earth', the area is also home to attractions such as the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa Lake Park.
Mohammed Alabbar, chairman of Emaar Properties, said: 'Burj Dubai shows just what can be achieved when people from all over the world come together to strive for a common purpose.'
Tourists can ascend to the top of the Burj Dubai tower in one of the world's fastest elevators.
At the summit, visitors can take in views stretching from the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Desert.
