The US Travel Association has called for the consideration of tighter security measures in the country following an attempted terrorist attack on Christmas Day.
A Nigerian man who is now in custody allegedly attempted to detonate a bomb during a flight to Detroit from Amsterdam.
The Transport Security Administration responded by announcing tougher checks on people travelling to the US from countries thought to have terrorist links, but the US Travel Association argued that more needs to be done.
Roger Dow, president of the association, said: 'It is no secret
that today's travel security screening processes - domestic and international - are not as efficient and effective as travellers and our country demand.'
He added: 'Anything less than the world's most secure and efficient travel process is unacceptable for our country and our nearly 60m annual international visitors, more than 30m of whom travel by air.'
Mr Dow called for a 'detailed review of current security apparatus' and analysis of systems and technologies that can be used to make air travel safer.
