7 Jan 2010
Movie fans will be heading to Rome in April to attend a festival celebrating independent cinema.
The ninth edition of the Rome Independent Film Festival (RIFF) will run from 8 to 16 April.
Dozens of movies from all over the world are showcased at the festival, which is one of Rome's leading cinema events.
One of the main aspects of the RIFF is the awards programme, which sees some 50,000 (£45,000) in prizes handed out every year.
Last year, the top accolade went to Hunger, a film directed by Steve McQueen and starring Michael Fassbender.
One of the main aims of the RIFF is to support and promote new talent in the movie industry, meaning visitors will be able to find out about some of the most innovative and exciting directors working today.
Several other events will be taking place in Rome over the coming months, including Vertigo, a festival that showcases up-and-coming theatre production companies.
