7 Jan 2010

Travellers visiting Singapore over the coming months will be able to join in with the city-state's celebrations of Chinese New Year.

While the Year of the Tiger officially begins on 14 February, various events and festivities will be taking place in Singapore between 23 January and 7 March.

An official opening ceremony takes place in Chinatown on 23 January, featuring pyrotechnics, firecrackers and an international lion dance contest including participants from across Asia.

On 19 and 20 February, Singapore will host Chingay, one of Asia's biggest street parades.

The event will set off from a new venue next to the city's observation wheel and will also coincide with the Singapore River Hongbao show, due to run from 12 to 20 February.

Other experiences on offer to visitors this year include the World Gourmet Summit between 11 and 24 April and the Singapore Arts Festival, which will attract thousands of artists to the destination between 14 May and 13 June.
