People travelling in Iceland this year will be offered a fascinating insight into local folklore at one of the country's newest and most unusual museums.
The Icelandic Sea Monster Museum opened this month in the village of Bildudalur in Arnafjordur, which is located in the southern part of the Westfjords peninsula.
Arnafjordur is considered something of a hotspot for sightings of unknown creatures in the water and has been at the centre of many strange tales that have become part of Icelandic legend.
Visitors to the new museum will be able to learn about the most common monsters reportedly seen in the area and hear interviews with local fishermen who claim to have spotted some of the beasts.
The Westfjords peninsula, which the Icelandic Tourist Board describes as one of the country's 'best-preserved secrets', is also home to museums dedicated to the subjects of witchcraft and pirates.
