Travellers will be able to connect to new Etihad Airways flights to Japan this year at the airline's hub in the United Arab Emirates.

The carrier launched a new service this week that links Abu Dhabi to Nagoya via Beijing, with four weekly flights currently available on the route.

Frequency will be increased to five weekly flights from 29 March.

Etihad will also offer a new option for travellers planning to visit Tokyo this year, with a service to the Japanese capital set to be launched from Abu Dhabi on 27 March.

James Hogan, chief executive of the airline, said: 'These new services, our first to Japan, are very important to Etihad.

'We believe the connection between Abu Dhabi and Nagoya will offer opportunities to grow tourism, as well as foster commercial growth and benefit key industries.'

Travellers planning a trip to the Far East this year can also catch flights to Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta with Etihad.
