Turner exhibition to be launched in Paris

Turner exhibition to be launched in Paris
5 Feb 2010

Art enthusiasts planning a trip to Paris this year will be able to visit an exhibition celebrating the work of JMW Turner and some of the painters who inspired him.

The show will open at the Grand Palais on 24 February and run until 24 May.

It is coming to Paris following a recent run at London's Tate Britain, which came to an end on 31 January.

The aim of the exhibition is to highlight a lesser-known side of Turner - his ambition to prove that he was as good as some of the classical masters he was inspired by.

Works by the British painter will be displayed alongside pieces by the likes of Canaletto, Rubens, Rembrandt and Titian.

Furthermore, visitors will be able to learn about the fierce rivalry that Turner had with some of his contemporaries, such as John Constable.

The Grand Palais is also hosting an exhibition this year that explores the dietary habits of dinosaurs, which will run until 2 May.
