Travellers who enjoy extreme experiences might be interested in a new guide being released by Lonely Planet.

The 1,000 Ultimate Experiences book covers events and activities all over the world that are guaranteed to provide participants with some long-lasting memories.

Among the experiences in the top ten is river rafting down the Zambezi, climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, swimming with sharks in South Africa and running with bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

Another activity recommended by Lonely Planet is swimming with dolphins at Kaikoura, off the coast of New Zealand's South Island.

Local company Dolphin Encounter takes visitors out on the water, allowing them to watch the mammals from the boat or swim with the animals in their natural environment.

Dolphin pod sizes range from ten to 1,500 along the Kaikoura coastline, which is famous for its marine wildlife.

Lonely Planet has also released a new iPhone guide to the city of Vancouver, Canada, which is available for free download.
