New social media application to promote Chicago

New social media application to promote Chicago
25 Feb 2010

Chicago is to be promoted to tourists through Foursquare, a new social media application for mobile phones.

Users of the tool will be able to ensure they make the most of their trip to Chicago by taking part in a game that will allow them to win badges, each of which is related to a different aspect of the city's culture.

Players will be encouraged to re-enact scenes from films at some of the famous movie locations in Chicago or visit clubs and historic sites to discover the city's association with blues music.

The initiative provides a 'new angle' for people to explore the culture and architecture that surrounds them, according to Tristan Walker, head of business development at Foursquare.

Dorothy Coyle, director of the Chicago Office of Tourism, said: 'Foursquare provides a great incentive for people to explore the city's diverse neighbourhoods by playing a fun and interactive game.

'We're excited to be pioneering this innovative service.'

Foursquare is available on internet-enabled mobile devices and can be downloaded for free.
