Toronto exhibition 'a hit'

The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) has announced that its exhibition on the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun has been a big success, with some 250,000 tickets sold.

People planning to visit Toronto over the coming months can see King Tut: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs at the gallery until 18 April.

The exhibition features artefacts from some of the ancient leader's direct ancestors, as well as a National Geographic display which includes images from scans of his mummified remains.

Matthew Teitelbaum, chief executive of the gallery, said: 'The exhibition is drawing thousands of new visitors to the AGO.

'Our exit surveys indicate that over 70% of visitors to King Tut have never been to the new AGO. We're thrilled with this response and look forward to welcoming many more new faces in the coming weeks.'

The show is part of an exhibition season at the venue that will also include a display of work by the German painter and sculptor Anselm Kiefer, which will open on 4 March.
