26 Feb 2010

Travellers will be able to absorb some local culture during a trip to Hungary this year by visiting the Budapest Spring Festival.

The event - which is described by the Hungarian National Tourist Office as 'one of the top cultural festivals in Europe' - will run from 19 March to 5 April.

A variety of different art forms are showcased in Budapest during the festival, including classical music, opera, visual arts, ballet and contemporary dance.

Highlights will include a performance by Nigel Kennedy, who will visit the Palace of Arts with a live orchestra on 26 March to perform a series of pieces by classical and contemporary composers.

The Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia will present shows at the Thalia Theatre on various dates, while Wagner's Parsifal will be staged at the State Opera House on 2 April.

In an added bonus for visitors, a number of hotels will be offering discount prices and special offers during the festival, according to the Hungarian National Tourist Office.

Flights to Budapest are available with Malev, among other carriers.
