The Singapore Tourism Board is aiming for another increase in visitor numbers over the coming year, it has been revealed.

Recent figures from the organisation show that Singapore welcomed some 908,000 visitors in January 2010, the highest number ever recorded for the month.

Eunice Yeo, area director for northern and western Europe at the Singapore Tourism Board, said the 17.6% year-on-year increase was partly attributable to the strong winter travel season.

She also highlighted the importance of promotional campaigns that were launched in the final quarter of 2009 and revealed that the destination is targeting further improvements in 2010.

'We aim to continue the growth this year with the aid of new boutique hotels, gourmet restaurants and [the] opening of two new integrated resorts: Resorts World Sentosa opening in May and Marina Bay Sands, which officially opens in June,' Ms Yeo said.

On the appeal of the destination, the tourist board spokeswoman commented: 'With its mix of Chinese, Indian, Malay and Eurasian nationalities, Singapore is a melting pot of culture and colour.'

She also highlighted the easy access to the city via air routes from the UK and the value for money on offer to visitors.
