Singapore attracts record visitors in January
9 Mar 2010

Some 908,000 people visited Singapore in January 2010 - marking a 17.6% increase from the previous year and the highest number ever recorded for the month.

Arrivals from the UK alone increased by 7%.

On the back of the strong figures, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) predicted visitor numbers of between 11.5m and 12.5m for the whole year.

The city-state has launched a new destination brand of 'YourSingapore' with the aim of boosting its profile in 2010 and offering a more comprehensive experience to visitors.

Eunice Yeo, the STB's area director in northern and western Europe, said: 'This is a milestone year for Singapore. With the launch of yet more new attractions and events, Singapore continues to offer an increasingly vibrant and diverse tourism landscape.'

Two integrated resorts will be opening in Singapore over the coming year - Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa.

There will also be major events taking place, such as the Formula One grand prix and the Great Singapore Sale.
