British Travel Awards survey indicates strong holiday demand
10 Mar 2010

The British Travel Awards (BTA) has released the results of its latest survey, which suggest that consumers will continue to see holidays as one of their priorities this year.

Attitudes towards holidays have remained 'surprisingly static' in recent times, despite the impact of the recession, according to the research.

The poll of 15,000 people found that demand for taking short breaks in addition to a main holiday has increased by 3%, while plans to take domestic trips have increased by 5%.

BTA chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: 'It would appear that for 2010 the main annual holiday will not be sacrificed, as 27% said they would reduce costs elsewhere rather than forego their main annual holiday, with others suggesting they would reduce holiday budgets.'

She went on to reveal that only 7% of people would decide not to travel this year if their budget proved to be too tight.

Every person questioned in the BTA poll said they use the internet in some form when planning a holiday, possibly to research a destination, compare prices or discover the opinions of other travellers.
