Finland promoted as 'indie' tourism destination
11 Mar 2010

Visit Finland has launched a campaign to deliver a change of image for the country as a travel destination.

The agency said that Finland is being characterised as an 'indie' destination that provides genuine experiences and distinguishes itself from mainstream holiday hotspots.

To support the initiative, the tourism organisation has created a video for its website featuring music by Finnish indie band Sister Flo.

Mervi Holmen, Visit Finland's brand manager, said: 'Indie music is very suitable for Finland.

'We want to be genuine. We want to get a taste of real life and get away from the mainstream crowd.'

He also provided a brief description of the type of people who are being targeted by the campaign, describing them as 'open to new experiences and to developing themselves' and saying that they 'value quality of life'.

Travellers planning to visit Finland this year can start their trip by catching flights to Helsinki, which are available with Finnair, SAS, British Airways and other carriers.
