Spring sun seekers urged to head south

Spring sun seekers urged to head south

Holidaymakers who are hoping to enjoy some sun during a getaway in April have been encouraged to head south to destinations such as Cyprus and Egypt.

Travel guide portal Simonseeks released an Easter holiday guide which pointed out that spring can be a 'tricky time of year' in weather terms.

While Mediterranean beach destinations are being marketed by tourist boards and operators, the site revealed that places like Mallorca, the Algarve and Spain's Costa del Sol can still have unsettled weather.

With average temperatures of 21C in Cyprus and the Canary Islands and up to 28C in Sharm el Sheikh, Simonseeks encouraged sun seekers to consider a trip to these destinations, all of which offer a flight time of five hours or less.

The company also highlighted the importance of timing holidays well in April, as prices will be higher on the first weekend in the month after schools break up for Easter.

People planning city breaks were given recommendations of Istanbul, Marrakech and Seville, with the Spanish destination proving particularly popular owing to its Holy Week processions.
