Lonely Planet: Cambodia about more than Angkor Wat

The ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat may be Cambodia's most famous attraction, but there is more to do in the country than visit the historic site, according to Lonely Planet.
Tom Hall, the company's travel editor, said that Cambodia is a 'growing tourist destination' but stated that people are 'almost exclusively' coming to see the temple.
Offering some advice to travellers planning to visit the destination, Mr Hall recommended seeing as many aspects of the country as possible.
He said that one opportunity open to the Cambodian tourism industry is to offer tours that allow people to learn about the Khmer Rouge, the totalitarian regime led by Pol Pot that ruled the country in the 1970s.
Mr Hall pointed out that people will 'naturally have questions' about this aspect of the nation's history and offering tours will allow Cambodia to 'tell the story in its own terms'.
He added: 'You do need to have a degree of sensitivity, but if tours are put in place in a thoughtful fashion, following the example of countries like Rwanda, there is no reason why they can't add to the richness and interest in visiting somewhere like Cambodia.'
