The Polish National Tourist Office has encouraged travellers to pay a visit to Krakow next month to experience one of the city's lesser-known events.
Returning for its ninth outing this year, the Cracovia Marathon will be held in the heart of the city on 25 April.
Participants run a 26.2-mile route that takes in some of Krakow's most popular and picturesque areas, including the old town, the banks of the Vistula river and Wawel Castle.
Bogdan Becla, acting director of the Polish National Tourist Office, described Krakow as 'one of Poland's most beautiful cities' but pointed out that 'not many people realise that it hosts a marathon'.
He added: 'It's definitely a good time to visit the city because there's a great atmosphere in the run up to the race.
'Every year Krakow's marathon gets more and more popular. It's certainly a great event for the city and helps to put us on the sporting map.'
