Landmark Bronzino exhibition to open in Florence
18 Mar 2010

Art enthusiasts will soon have the opportunity to visit a landmark exhibition in Florence celebrating one of the greatest painters of the 16th century.

Bronzino: Artist and Poet will be on display at the Palazzo Strozzi from 24 September this year to 23 January 2011.

The painter has strong links with Florence - he was born and died in the city and served as court artist to Duke Cosimo I de Medici.

Many of his works are still on display at venues such as the Uffizi Gallery, as well as several other museums and churches.

The forthcoming exhibition has taken over four years to prepare and will include loans from some of the world's leading art institutes, including the Louvre in Paris, the Stadel Museum in Frankfurt and New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Visitors will be able to see 56 paintings by Bronzino, as well as pieces by some of his contemporaries.

Florence is home to many other attractions that offer an insight into the city's culture and history, such as the Bargello Museum and the Accademia Gallery.
