New York event to celebrate culture and cuisine

New York will host an event in May that will showcase a variety of different foods and celebrate the diversity of the city's culture.

The annual Ninth Avenue International Food Festival will return for its 37th outing on 15 and 16 May.

Visitors should head to the stretch of Ninth Avenue between 42nd and 57th streets to attend the festival, which will get underway at 09:30 and finish at 18:30 local time on both days.

Local merchants serving a variety of foods are set to take part in the event, representing countries including Poland, Italy, Spain and Greece.

As well as trying the array of cuisine on offer, tourists can browse through a market selling all sorts of products, including jewellery, clothing and art.

Entertainment at the festival will be provided by local community groups, live bands and dancers, while those with youngsters can head to the children's pavilion on 53rd and 54th streets.

Travellers can catch flights to New York with carriers including Virgin Atlantic, US Airways and KLM.
