New terminal 'will attract more travellers to Copenhagen'

Copenhagen is expected to attract more visitors this year as a result of a new low-cost airport terminal being opened in the city.

A topping-out ceremony was held for the CPH Swift building on 25 March, with the new facility set to be operational in six months' time.

The terminal has been designed to meet the needs of low-cost airlines and support the development of these carriers in Denmark.

Brian Petersen, president and chief executive of Copenhagen Airports, pointed out that the aviation industry is changing, meaning it is vital for hubs to meet the needs and expectations of airlines to avoid being left behind.

He added: 'It is essential for the region that we attract more passengers to Copenhagen.

'In CPH Swift, we create a platform for more low-cost traffic, and it will attract visitors that would not otherwise come to Copenhagen. It will benefit tourism, business and employment in the Oresund region.'

The terminal will initially have the capacity to handle 6m passengers a year.

Flights to Copenhagen are provided by carriers including easyJet, SAS and bmi.
