New Picasso exhibition to be launched in Barcelona
14 Apr 2010
Art enthusiasts will be able to visit an exhibition offering a new insight into the work of Pablo Picasso during breaks in Barcelona this year.
The new display at the Museu Picasso focuses on the inspiration that the Spanish painter took from the Catalan artist Santiago Rusinol.
Picasso arrived in Barcelona when Rusinol was one of the city's most renowned cultural figures and took up themes explored by the older artist in some of his early works.
Visitors will be able to see a number of pieces highlighting the links between the two men, including some little-known illustrations made by Picasso in the 1960s that were based on L'auca del Senyor Esteve, Rusinol's most famous work.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 28 May to 5 September.
Art enthusiasts will also be able to catch flights to Barcelona later this year to see an exhibition focusing on the links between Picasso and Edgar Degas, which will open on 15 October.
