Passenger numbers on the up at Liverpool airport

Passenger numbers on the up at Liverpool airport
15 Apr 2010

Liverpool John Lennon airport (JLA) has revealed strong growth in passenger traffic so far this year, with a 15% increase in traveller numbers during the first quarter compared to the same period in 2009.

Year-on-year passenger growth has now been recorded at the northern gateway for five consecutive months.

An increase of 18% was recorded in the months of February and March, meaning that Liverpool is currently one of the fastest-growing airports in the UK.

Passenger numbers are set to continuing increasing in the near future, with easyJet set to launch a new Isle of Man service in May and KLM introducing an additional daily flight to Amsterdam.

Neil Pakey, chief executive of operating company Peel Airports, said: 'Liverpool is continuing to buck the trend and is now one of the UK's best performing airports in terms of passenger growth.

'More and more passengers are now flying via the airport and improved accessibility from across the region means that JLA is becoming the airport of choice for growing numbers of travelers from right across the north-west.'

Developments including the expansion of the airport's departure lounge are planned this year to cater for the increasing numbers of passengers.
