One of the most appealing aspects of Croatia as a holiday destination is its diversity, a tourism industry spokesperson has claimed.

Meri Matesic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Office in London, said that the country boasts "unspoilt nature and cultural heritage", as well as opportunities to try a range of sports and adventurous activities.

She revealed that the variety of experiences on offer has led to strong interest in the destination from British travellers recently, despite the economic crisis.

'Croatia is a land of difference and diversity,' Ms Matesic said.

'In one day, within a few hours you can sail, dive [and] go on the beach and in the next hour you can do mountain walking, biking, hiking, or whatever you want to do.'

There was a three per cent increase in the number of British visitors to Croatia last year.

Access to the country will be boosted over the coming months by the launch of new services including easyJet flights to Split and Dubrovnik from Stansted.
