Holidays 'important for family health and wellbeing'

Regular holidays can make significant contributions to families' health and personal wellbeing, it has been claimed.
The director of the Family Holiday Association, an organisation that helps disadvantaged families arrange trips away from home, said that Britain lags behind other European countries in recognising the benefits that short breaks can bring.
John McDonald pointed out that access to holidays is part of the social welfare system in other parts of Europe.
Commenting on the benefits of regular breaks, Mr McDonald said: 'They make a significant difference to the health and wellbeing of children and parents and also have an impact on the local community. Happier families make happier communities.'
He added: 'The majority of people in the UK actually aspire to going overseas. We should always remember that getting to the sun is something that people want to do.'
UK residents made 13.6m trips abroad in the three months from November 2009 to January this year, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.
