Holidaymakers planning a summer break in the Algarve region of Portugal this year will be able to see some unique spectacles at a special event.
The FIESA International Sand Sculpture Festival will take place in Pera from 22 May to 22 October.
Thought to be the largest event of its kind in the world, the festival has been a tradition in the Algarve since 2003.
It attracts dozens of talented sculptors from across the globe, who shape some 35,000 tonnes of sand into artistic creations covering an area of 15,000 square metres.
The theme for this year's outing of the FIESA festival is 'the living world', meaning visitors will be able to see representations of flora and fauna from five continents, dating from prehistoric times to the present day.
Visitors will also be able to show off their own creative talents in a public area allowing people of all ages to try their hand at sand sculpting.
Opodo cheap flights, hotels and car hire - let the journey begin!
