New York Twitter account reaches 20,000 followers

The Twitter feed operated by the New York State Division of Tourism has become the first account of its kind to attract 20,000 followers.
According to rankings provided by twitter.grader.com, the @I_LOVE_NY Twitter handle is the most popular of all the state tourism accounts from the US and Canada listed on the micro-blogging site.
Followers of the feed are provided with details on upcoming events, interesting facts and other pieces of information that could help them plan a holiday in the region.
The New York State Division of Tourism also operates a Facebook page and the iloveny.com website, which feature a number of useful tools and resources for travellers.
Edward Maitino, marketing director for Empire State Development, said: 'We provide our Twitter followers with trendy and appealing topics to engage their interest in New York and excite them to travel throughout our 11 vacation regions.
'The results have been spectacular: not only are we the number one state tourism site in the country, but our Twitter handle continues to grow by approximately 500 new followers per week.'
Popular attractions in the state of New York include Niagara Falls and the Hudson Valley wine trails.
