'Key indicators are showing signs of vitality throughout many segments of the city's tourism industry.'

The statistics also highlighted the popularity of New York's tourist attractions and arts organisations, with visitor numbers rising by an average of 8% in the first quarter of 2010.

A 5.9% year-on-year increase was recorded in Broadway ticket sales, while hotel occupancies climbed 8.7% to 73.8%.
