Art lovers urged to see Florence
21 May 2010

People with a passion for art and culture have been encouraged to pay a visit to Florence in Italy.

Roberta Romoli, a spokeswoman for the Florence Tourist Board, described the destination as 'one of the cities that everyone should see once in their life'.

It is particularly attractive for people with an interest in art, boasting museums and galleries that house seminal works such as Michelangelo's David and The Birth of Venus by Botticelli.

'Florence has an exceptional and incomparable artistic heritage and still today the primary reason for visiting the city is its outstanding artistic patrimony,' Ms Romoli said.

'They say that Italy houses 40% of worldwide artistic patrimony, consequently Florence on its own conserves a great part of Italian art attractions.'

Among the most popular cultural institutes in Florence are the Uffizi Gallery and the Bargello Museum, both of which are located in the heart of the city.

Flights to Florence are provided by Meridiana, British Airways, Alitalia and other carriers.
