People planning a trip to New York City this summer will have the opportunity to attend some 'amazing' events and festivals, a tourism industry spokeswoman has revealed.

Anna Catchpole, UK PR manager for marketing organisation NYC & Company, highlighted the range of outdoor concerts set to take place in Central Park and film festivals due to be held in Brooklyn.

She also pointed out that there will be some entertainment for fans of classical music and opera.

'The New York Philharmonic's Concerts in the Parks and the Metropolitan Opera's Summer Recital Series provide free shows in outdoor venues throughout the five boroughs,' Ms Catchpole said.

'One must-see event this year is the Shakespeare in the Park series in Central Park. Don't miss Al Pacino who will star in the Merchant of Venice throughout June and July.'

NYC & Company recently released tourism industry figures covering the first quarter of 2010, showing that New York City's visitor numbers increased by around 11% year-on-year to reach 10.6m.
