Manchester Art Gallery picks up tourism awards

Manchester Art Gallery has been recognised for its cultural offerings at a major awards ceremony.
The winners of the Manchester Tourism Awards 2010 were announced at a ceremony hosted by actor and comedian John Thomson last night (27 May).
Manchester Art Gallery was named large visitor attraction of the year, with the awards organisers saying that the institute has continued to 'go from strength to strength' and is now 'a must-see for any visitor to the city'.
Furthermore, the Angels of Anarchy exhibition that was held at the gallery recently was voted the best tourism experience of the year.
Other winners included the Manchester International Festival, which picked up the accolade for event of the year and also received a sustainable tourism award.
The biennial festival will return in 2011.
Travellers visiting Manchester might also be interested in seeing the Stockport Air Raid Shelters complex, which was named the best small visitor attraction of the year.
