Absorbing local culture and seeing sights is top of most British travellers' 'to-do' lists when they visit a new destination, according to a survey.
Almost all of the respondents to a Lonely Planet poll said visiting cultural sights is their top priority during a holiday, followed closely by scenery and nature (89%) and food and drink (83%).
Relaxing by the pool was fairly low down in the list, with only 32% of people saying this is one of their favourite activities, TravelMole reports.
The research also highlighted the important part that holidays play in British consumers' lives, with only 1% of respondents saying they would be put off taking a break if they did not have enough money.
Nearly two-thirds (63%) would reportedly be willing to change their lifestyle to free up some travel money, while 61% would resort to raiding their savings.
Paying for a holiday by credit card is an option that more than a third (35%) of Brits would consider, according to the study.
One in every ten (10%) people surveyed said they would even take out a loan or overdraft to cover the cost of a getaway.
