Go on an Italian journey in New York
11 Jun 2010

Travellers visiting New York over the coming months can see an exhibition that provides a fascinating insight into the history of European art.

Entitled An Italian Journey, the display will be on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art until 15 August.

It features work from the collection of Julie and David Tobey, who over the past 20 years have amassed one of the pre-eminent collections of Italian drawings in private ownership.

Visitors can see approximately 70 pieces that span a period of 200 years from the 16th to the 18th centuries and represent leading centres of Italian art, such as Florence, Rome, Naples and Venice.

Work by celebrated draftsmen including Correggio, Canaletto and Tiepolo features in the exhibition.

Another acclaimed artist, Pablo Picasso, is the subject of a separate show currently running at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The display, which is the first to focus exclusively on works by Picasso from the museum's collection, will run until 15 August.
